Whirlwind - Our first 4 months!

Welcome to the first Golden Equinox Racing blog!

Well there is so much to tell you all. Get yourself comfortable, make a cup of tea and enjoy a biscuit or 2. While we get into everything that's gone on since the 1st July 2019. Firstly I would like to welcome you all to Golden Equinox Racing, we hope you will enjoy watching our progress and will come on our journey with us over the coming weeks, months & years. First let me paint the picture for you of how we got here. My name is Carl Woods (that's me with Frankie Dettori) and for the past 7 years I have owned The Golden Horse Racing Club, where we enjoyed lots of amazing times as a club. Over the years we grew the club to 6 horses, brought over 200 new shareholders into racing and I made some friends that will be friends of mine for the rest of my life. One of the highlights for me was when we had Frankie Dettori winning on 1 of our horses, Blaine. Then there is our sprinter Dandilion, who was a 3 time winner for us, she is still the horse I love the most out of all the horses I've owned so far but I'm hoping some of the youngsters we currently own will try to take her place, as I'm sure we have some really exciting youngsters. Rob Edwards set up Equinox Racing to further his passion for racehorse ownership, as he was already an avid shareholder in a lot of syndicates around the country and he was a big shareholder in TGH right up until the merger. He liked what we did and how we ran the club. When he set his own racing club up, after many discussions he was just as keen as I was to merge our clubs together to give all of our members more race days, more excitement and more horses. After very quick negotiations, we both knew this was the right thing for us to do. This brought together a team of very experienced, successful businessmen and keen racehorse enthusiasts who would help push both our clubs to the next level. On the 1st July 2019, Golden Equinox Racing was born, with a management team of myself, Rob, Steve Morris (who I'll speak about a little later) and Chris Bennett, with each of us bringing something to the business we all believed would help us expand the club. So Golden Equinox Racing was born...

In the last 4 months we have been lucky enough to get off to a really good start with our horses. We've enjoyed watching Nervous Nerys win on the 9th August at Brighton, Dandilion on the 19th August at Lingfield and De Little Engine at Brighton on the 16th Sept. We've had plenty of horses finish in the places over the last 4 months too, so it's been a really good start for us and we are excited for the horses we are about to debut over the coming months.

In the last 4 months we have bought 12 horses ranging from £6,000 right up to £30,000 taking our total to well over 20 horses in training now. We have some really nice yearlings for 2020, we have national hunt horses just about to debut for us, as well as buying some nice flat horses to go on the all weather over the winter and take us into the new turf season of 2020. It's a really exciting time for us all. One of our racing managers, Steve Morris has been integral to the buying of the new horses. Having done a lot of the work behind the scenes going through the sales catalogues, viewing the horses at the sales and even travelling over to Henry De Bromhead yard in Ireland to view 3yo Yeats filly we have added to our team of horses. Steve has been in racing for over 30 years and really has a superb eye for a racehorse. Thank you for reading, I hope you've enjoyed learning a little bit more about the background of our club and I hope you will be back in December to read my latest blog as I'll be uploading a monthly blog at the beginning of each month, so you can be kept up to date on everything that happens with the club and our horses.
